ISUP with your children

ISUP with your children

If you enjoy SUP, it is also a great idea to introduce your child to SUP as SUP is beginner-friendly and great for well-being – physically and mentally:
Comfortable in the water
Generally, kids 5 years or older can handle SUP on their own as they can balance and coordinate their movements. Kids 5 years or younger can also enjoy SUP if your SUP fits both of you. Nevertheless, you need to make sure that your kids get used to the water -- like teaching them how to swim and protect themselves in and around the water.

Enough UV protection
Because UV reflects off the water, UV protection becomes especially important when you are out in the water. Sunglasses, hats, UVF swimwear, plus sunscreen will provide maximum UV protection to your children on a hot sunny day.

Suitable gear - SUP, paddle and protective gear
SUP gear varies with your body size and the style of paddling, as well as for kids. Kids need smaller equipment that enables efficient movements. Equipment that fits can also protect your child by avoiding injuries. Check out our ISUPs [link on amazon] and paddles [link on amazon] to find the best fit for your child!
Calm water and weather
Play it safe. It is important that your child stays safe by giving their first try in places where they feel stable . You want to go to familiar places where you know its calm. Checking the weather forecast before heading out to the water is also crucial.

Simple SUP techniques
Teaching the kids the basic techniques like paddling straight and turning around can make the first paddle trip a lot easier. Be sure your child knows what to do when accidents happen, like when they fall into the water. You can give them a simple briefing. Also, it won't hurt to practice falling into the water, as they need to know how to fall into the water and recover without hurting themselves.
